Session Description and Learning Objectives
This online workshop will explore how related services providers can engage
in collaboration, the first of four High-Leverage Practices in Special
Education from the Council on Exceptional Children. By weaving together the
therapy process and the special education process, participants will deepen
understanding of how and why collaboration is a core feature of equitable,
effective, and compliant service delivery in schools. Anchoring the discussion
in collective efficacy (Donohoo, Hattie, & Eells, 2018), the impact of the
Endrew F. v. Douglas County Supreme Court decision, standards-aligned IEP
development, and the concept of learning progressions as a frame for
intervention planning, we will examine how best practices in collaboration
ensure educationally relevant services are yielding improved academic and
functional outcomes for students with disabilities. Participants will learn
through a combination of lecture, discussion, and applied activities in
reflecting on their own collaboration strengths and areas for improvement.
