Finding the Right Fit: What Contributes to Successful Speech-Generating Device Use?

• As part of his own capstone project, Dr. Ryan looked to gain further insight into the cause of speech generating device abandonment by users who are prescribed devices by OT’s, SLP’s and others. While many studies have determined a variety of the causes of device abandonment, the problem persists, with as many as 70% of device users ultimately giving up their devices used to communicate. Dr. Ryan’s study adopted a different approach and sought to understand what is commonplace among those device users who do use their devices on a routine basis so those commonalities can be applied to others. 

• In this course, the audience will learn about what contributes to successful speech-generating device use as presented by Dr. Chris Ryan. Following the video presentation, the audience will complete a short learning activity to demonstrate understanding of the material and to provide feedback on the course.
