**DISCLAIMER: THIS TEST IS NO LONGER IN PRINT.** The SPI is divided into five major sections that measure severity and predict chronicity: history, reactions, part-word repetitions, prolongations, and frequency. The stimulus materials, whicha re found in the back of the manual, can be used to elicit conversation from the child. It involves three procedures: 1) a parent interview, 2) observation and tape recording of the child’s speech, and 3) analysis of the tape recording.
